What is the Living Identity OS?
The Living Identity OS is the working operating system that turns a person's identity into living, governed infrastructure they can build and act from across the AI economy. It was originated by Josette Williams on February 13, 2026, from a conceptual seed in December 2025, and was formerly named the Distributed Identity Engine before its rename on June 28, 2026. Identity online has lived as scattered fragments that others assemble into a picture of a person; this is the layer that holds it as one owner-governed whole.
How is the Living Identity OS different from decentralized identity and self-sovereign identity standards?
W3C decentralized identity and self-sovereign identity standards govern the technical self-custody of identifiers: proving who controls a credential. The Living Identity OS governs the economic activation of what those identifiers represent: what a person's identity is worth, who sets the terms, and where the value lands. They operate at different layers and are complementary rather than competing.
What is Self-Licensing?
Self-Licensing is the economic mechanism by which a person sets the terms for how their identity, expertise, and presence are used and valued in the AI economy. It was coined by Josette Williams on March 9, 2026. When identity becomes an economic asset inside AI systems, value flows to whoever holds the data; self-licensing is the mechanism by which a person licenses herself instead.
What is the Living Identity Mirror?
The Living Identity Mirror is the component of the Living Identity OS that reflects a person's identity back to them as it is now and as it is becoming, so they can see, govern, and build from it. It was coined by Josette Williams on May 28, 2026. Most identity tools return a static snapshot — a bio, a headshot, a past title — which freezes a person in place while she keeps changing.
What does it mean to own your identity in the AI economy?
It means being the one who sets the terms, rather than the one being described. AI systems increasingly read, model and act on who a person is, assembling that picture from scattered traces she did not author. Owning it means holding a coherent, governed account of yourself that you publish, control, and license — so the systems cite you rather than guess.
How do I make sure AI search engines describe me accurately?
Publish a canonical account of yourself that engines can read directly. That means definitions written in plain declarative sentences, structured data marking who and what you are, consistent naming across every domain you own, and one source page everything else points back to.
